How this reads
This page sets out how the eighteen entries were put together, which sources stand behind them, and what has been left out on purpose. The method is the same on every page, and it is deliberately plain.
How the hotels were chosen
Four categories were fixed first, and the hotels were then chosen to fill them: casino hotels, capsule hotels, ice hotels and art hotels. Each one is a real, working hotel with a published presence. No hotel appears in more than one category, and none was chosen because of any arrangement.
Which sources are used
Hotel and operator websites come first, then published maps for location, then press writing for the history of a building. Where a statement could not be supported, it was rewritten until it stood on its own. Nothing here is written from memory or from a single second-hand summary.
Reading the winter entries
The four snow and ice buildings work in winter alone. Each is designed again and rebuilt from nothing every year, then melts. Dates are not given here because they move with the cold; ask the operator for the current season. Where warm buildings stand nearby, the entry says so.
What is not here
No prices, no stars, no room counts, no reviews, no ordering and no booking. Hotels are not compared with one another. The licensed floors of the four Canadian resorts are not described, and no part of this site invites anyone to enter one.
Telling us about an error
Corrections are welcome, particularly where a hotel has altered a shared room, moved address or changed its name. Write with the entry and the source, and the page will be amended.
